REFUGEES

You came to stay I don't know why,
You have your problems that make you cry.
You came for help, we'll do our best,
Only time will tell if we passed the test.

Your children are loved and so are you,
The help we give we hope is true.
For we are here loving and giving
To make this world a place to live in.

There's a thing in life that we do not give
It's how to let good people live,
Whatever colour, whatever nation
We're all Gods own creation,
Black or white, we're all the same
We're no different in God's name.

Let's all live in happiness and peace
And love one another, it's simple at least.

Writer's Block

My teacher told me to write a poem,
She said that it must rhyme,
But I could not think of anything,
Though I thought for a long, long time.

I tried so hard to write a poem
But words I could not find,
I racked my brains, I chewed my pen,
Oh Dear, I'm in a bind.

It's getting very late now,
My mam says go to sleep,
When suddenly ideas come -
Oh Well, they'll have to wait!

Spring on my Window

Our kitchen's warm and bright,
And on the window sill
I behold a beautiful sight.

There's such a lovely terracotta pot,
With rich brown soil
That I water a lot.

The green shoots poke their heads through the soil,
And every morning
I watch them toil.

At last they reach their right height,
And oh! What breath-taking sight,
My flowers are a glorious sight.

Perhaps you would like to take part in the Killinarden (Dublin, Ireland) internet poetry competition...This is our third year to run this project and it has been very successful. We had a poetry week in school. All pupils were invited to compose an original poem, and ten were selected to be published on our website. We are asking as many schools as possible to read them and send us an email telling us their favourites. Small prizes will be awarded to the authors of the three most popular poems. The objectives of the project are to encourage an interest in poetry, and secondly, to highlight the educational potential of the internet. Perhaps you would forward this message to any other schools you know of, either nationally or internationally. We hope that by reading the poems, your own pupils will be inspired to write their own.....
